 | WASP is one of the most widely used tools for electricity system planning. The model determines the least-cost generating system expansion plan that adequately meets demand for electrical power while respecting user-specified constraints on system reliability. WASP uses probabilistic simulation to calculate production costs for a large number of possible future system configurations and dynamic programming to determine the optimal expansion plan for the electric power system considered.

| Who is using the WASP software? |
 | ADICA staff and associated professionals have used WASP jointly with national utilities and government agencies to perform numerous electricity planning studies. During 2004-2007, we applied WASP in support of the following activities:
1. Used the WASP model in conducting an Electricity Pricing Study for the North Sulawesi Region of Indonesia (with WestJEC and PLN);
2. Provided training on the use of MAED and WASP for the Ministry of Energy in Kenya in support of a World Bank Energy Sector Recovery Project;
3. Provided training on the use of WASP in Nagoya, Japan, for staff of Chubu Electric Power Company;
4. Provided training and technical support to the Philippine Department of Energy on the use of WASP for developing a national Power Development Programme under a project funded by JICA;
5. Provided training and technical support on the use of WASP for analyzing Renewable Energy Technologies under a World Bank project in Mexico;
6. Provided technical support in the application of WASP together with ADICA`s GTMax software in developing a Generation Investment Strategy for Southeast Europe under a project conducted for the European Community and World Bank;
7. Provided training on the use of WASP in Algiers, Algeria, for the staff of Commission de Régulation de l`Électricité et du Gaz (CREG) and Societé Nationale de l’Electricité et du Gaz (SONELGAZ) Companies;
8. Provided training on Electricity System Expansion Planning using WASP in Nicosia, Cyprus, for the staff of Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC);
9. Provided intensive training on Generation Planning using WASP in Indonesia, for the staff of Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) Company; and
10. Provided intensive training on Generation Planning using WASP in Malaysia for staff of the Energy Commission, TNB, SESCO and Malakoff.

| How can my company receive training on the WASP software? |
 | ADICA is a leading trainer in the use of WASP. Our staff has trained over 400 experts from 50 countries in the use of this software. Our more recent courses and projects combine the use of WASP with GTMax -- providing an integrated framework for generation expansion planning within a competitive market environment.
ADICA intends to organize a 2-week training course on WASP each fall. To request additional information on how you can enroll in the course, click on "Contact Us" from the ADICA website.

| Who Distributes the WASP model? |
 | WASP is distributed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which makes the software available through a network of national Liaison Officers.
